Terranova nature centre
Terranova, which means new land, provides information on uplifts, the natural features of the Kvarken area, protected areas, nature tourism services and recreational use of nature. Terranova-Kvarken Nature Centre is situated in the same facilities as the Ostrobothnian Museum.
At Metsähallitus customer service point, next to Ostrobothnian museums info, you can get information about the nature in Kvarken Archipelago, protected areas and hiking destinations.

Nature trail
Öjen
You find the trail about 4 km from the centre of Vaasa. By the road from Vaasa to Sundom (road number 6741), just after the bridge on your left there are signs to the trail. The trail is about 4,5 km long and goes through a protected area with primeval forest.

Bergö
Bergö is an idyllic island in the Ostrobotnian archipelago. About 500 people live on the island. Bergö is situated approximately 60 km south of Vasa and is a part of the municipality of Malax since 1973.

Passenger numbers are increasingly sharply at Vaasa Airport. The estimate for the number of passengers in 2007 is about 325,000. Blue1, Finnair and Finncomm Airlines have regular traffic to Vaasa.

Nature trail
Risöfladan
Risö hiking trail and bird watching tower. The trail gives you access to one of the best bird watching waters in Finland. Metsähallitus has both built the tower, a resting place at Rövarskär and made easy accessible trails.

Nature trail
Öjberget
It is only 5km from Vasa city centre to the beautiful nature at Öjberget in Sundom. The nature trail is a popular site both during the summer and the winter. The area inludes a wintersport centre as well as a 2.5 km nature trail. The trail goes from the Öjbergsmossen bog to a giant´s pot hole and over a devil´s field to the dwarfed pine-tree-covered meteorite-crater rim of Söderfjärden. The highest point on the trail is the watch tower on top of the hill, 65 m over the sea.

Sundom village

Nature trail
Bergö Nature trail
The nature trail is about 6 km long and the route mostly passes through dense forests but also includes some walking along sand roads. Along the trail you will find information about the village history.
The village artist Lars-Göran Söderholm has created some wooden animal faces that are placed along the trail.
You can start the trail near the ferry harbour or near the Sjöberg's cottages.

Kopparfuruskär
Keep the Archipelago Tidy is an organisation active in environment protection in many fields: waste collection, recycling, information and education.
On Kopparfuruskär you can find a barbeque, outdoor table, toilet and waste disposal station. The island is also suited for people in wheel chairs.
